Available at Georgetown Plastic Surgery is a top of the line, fourth generation laser system called the Lumenis One. This platform combines two separate lasers and an Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) to treat a broad range of pigmentary and vascular conditions. One laser cannot treat all conditions! The included LightSheer diode laser is the gold standard for hair removal and the YAG laser is the gold standard for laser vein therapy. The Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) head is excellent for removing sunspots and photofacials.

Our laser program is overseen by Dr. Staebel, a Plastic Surgeon. The highest precautions for patient safety and comfort are always provided! Patients undergoing sunspot and birthmark treatments are screened by Dr. Staebel to ensure that malignant or pre-malignant skin spots are not inappropriately treated.

With the multiple lasers on the Lumenis One a broad range of skin conditions, hair types and skin types can be treated. Because of the nature of laser light and intense pulsed light therapy, patients who are actively tanning (or are becoming tan due to passive sun exposure) risk post treatment pigmentary changes. These are usually temporary and treatable but can be permanent. For this reason, patients undergoing laser hair and vein removal must protect the treated areas from the sun for 2 weeks before and 2 weeks after their treatment session. For Intense Pulse Light treatments the period is 4 weeks before and after the session.

The LightSheer diode laser on the Lumenis One can treat all skin types for hair removal. Generally, the darker the skin and the fairer the hair to be treated, the more sessions required for optimal results.
